In celebration of the African Heritage Month Belas Artes is honored to bring to St. Louis the art of two of the most acclaimed contemporary African Artists: Khalifa Ababacar Dieng from Senegal winner of the European Union Creativity prize at the 7th Biennal African Art, and the Nigerian Art Ambassador Ibiyinka Olufemi Alao, first prize winner of the United Nations International Art competition.

Curated by Dr. Jackie Lewis-Harris, PhD, Director of the Center of Human Origin and Cultural Diversity, University of Missouri St. Louis, the exhibit “From West Africa to the Midwest - A journey of space, time, and movement” is a two part show which moves through the gallery’s space and through time. Khalifa’s interactive and playful art will be shown from 02/02 to 02/24 followed by the vibrancy of color and movement of Ibiyinka’s bigger than life colorful paintings displayed from 02/28 to 03/7th.

In this first of a series of annual exhibits exploring perception, creation, space, time and movement, Belas Artes offers to the public an experience of the dynamics of diversity in a constant search for equality, harmony, and joy.

The event and exhibit are free and open to the public. Parking on street.
