William and Florence Schmidt Art Center: Thursday, 26 June 2008

Please join us for an opening reception of artworks by Michael Mason, Snail Scott, and Michael Aaron McAllister at the William and Florence Schmidt Art Center.

RECEPTION Thursday, June 26 6 - 8 p.m.
The exhibition continues through August 9, 2008.

Michael Mason: Homage to Louis H. Sullivan
Michael Aaron McAllister: Saints and Sinners
Snail Scott: Inclination

Michael Mason scans images of various natural elements onto a computer, then uses photographic and graphic arts software programs to manipulate the images.

"Saints and Sinners" highlights needlework pieces by Michael Aaron McAllister, whose work includes stitched portraits of several famous, some infamous, individuals, such as Mother Teresa, Bonnie and Clyde, Leonardo da Vinci, Richard Nixon and Malcolm X.

In Inclination, Snail Scott creates provocative works by combining unlikely imagery and materials that offers a connection with the real world. Through her sculptures, she uses
common and familiar materials to invite the observer to "create a new understanding of the object."

The William and Florence Schmidt Art Center is located on the Belleville Campus of Southwestern Illinois College. Exhibitions and events are free and open to the public, unless otherwise noted. Free visitor parking is available in front of the Art Center. METROLINK Exit College Station and cross the parking lot. HOURS Tuesday - Friday 11 am-5 pm,

Duane Reed Gallery: Friday, 20 June

June 20th – July 26th, 2008
Opening Reception Friday, June 20th 5 – 8 pm

Matthew O’Shea: Figures
For over twenty years Matthew O’Shea has enjoyed a career as both an exhibiting fine artist and a commercial photographer. His latest body of work brings into question the notion of contemporary identity in our modern technological age.

John G. Garrett: Linked Lines
Over the past twenty-five years, John Garrett has worked simultaneously with two and
three-dimensional formats to create his textile forms with a variety of unusual and nontraditional materials. Visually unpredictable, apiece might be woven, wrapped, plaited,
riveted, painted, rusted, twined, nailed, stitched or tied. The materials used could be
nails, buttons, washers, corks, plastic flowers, painted aluminum, copper, cornhusks,
bed springs and even plastic curlers. Each work of art is a meticulously crafted,
energetic and complex structure. He moves gracefully from constructing wall pieces to
baskets, breathing new life into discarded objects.

The works will be on view through July 26th.
Gallery hours: Tuesday through Friday 10-5pm, Saturday 12-4pm.
