Bonsack Gallery: Friday, 5 April 2013
A Bonsack Gallery exhibit entitled “Everyday Beauty” will feature the paintings of Julie Wiegand and the jewelry of Nancy Pierson from April 5 through May 7.
Julie Wiegand’s
collection of still-life oil paintings was inspired by and painted at Lyon
School Studio in rural Berger, Missouri, the artist’s home and studio. Vibrant
colors and the play of light convey the joy in everyday life in these works.
Subjects range from collected treasures to beautiful food, functional tools to
the windowsills of Wiegand’s home. “I have tried to approach each painting for
this show with a feeling of new adventure and mainly to work with available
natural light on the subjects,” says the artist.
Nancy Pierson says that working in metals, making
jewelry in particular, has enabled her to incorporate a variety of media in an
intimate scale. Her inspiration comes from the natural world and objects
collected along the way — a rusty scrap of metal, a pebble or a vintage
photograph. “I like the juxtaposition of materials, and as a result, these found
treasures find a home in my work. I am drawn to the textures, patterns, forms
and colors that can be achieved,” says the artist.
All are invited to an opening reception hosted by the
artists from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, on Friday, April 5. Regular gallery hours are 8
am to 6:30 pm, weekdays. The exhibit is free to the public.
