World Chess Hall of Fame: thursday, 7 March 2013
Please join us tonight at the World Chess Hall of Fame for the opening reception for Bill Smith: Beyond the Humanities exhibition.
Thursday, March 7th, 6-8p.m.
Artist introduction at 6:30p.m.
Bill Smith's art emerges from an analysis of our increasingly technologically advanced society and our shrinking natural world. With a background in sculpture, microbiology, chemistry, and mechanics, Smith creates art inspired by disciplines outside of the humanities where the aesthetic beauty of Smith's creations is a byproduct of his process. Beyond the Humanities explores how rules guide the creation of our world's structure and behavior. Like Smith's work, chess is defined by patterns, interactions, and rules analogous to the laws of nature. By successfully utilizing the rules of their respective environments, both chess and the natural world produce beautiful and harmonious results.
Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. Complimentary valet.
RSVP to Lauren Stewart at (314) 367-9243 ext 106 or
