Gallery at RAC: Friday, 11 March 2016

Octarrarium
Opening reception on Friday, March 11 from 5:30 – 7:30pm,

The Regional Arts Commission (RAC) presents Octarrarium which represents the latest iteration of large scale video installation systems developed by collaborators Kevin Harris and Chad Eivins. The piece will serve as both a gallery installation and a platform for sound performance. A multi-sensory and immersive environment, Octarrarium, is created by encompassing the viewer within eight large projections of live, interactive video.

Inside Octarrarium, every movement and sound made will affect the surroundings, controlling an image blend of live cameras and analog video synthesis. The result can be personal or communal and is dependent on everything and everyone within the fortified structure. It is the relationship between art, public, and environment that is being reorganized and reconsidered.

At its core, Octarrarium demonstrates that art is not restricted to objects and commodities. It can be extended to an idea, an emotion, and most importantly, a shared human experience.
In addition to an experiential gallery installation, Octarrarium will host collaborative events with many St. Louis artists.
