Green Door art gallery in Webster Groves Presents “Two Year Birthday Bash”
July 1 – August 29, 2015
Opening social held on Friday, July 10, from 5-9 p.m.
Green Door art gallery will be celebrating “Two Year Birthday Bash” for their two year anniversary which will feature the best pastels of Gateway Pastel Artists. GPA was founded in 1998 and has educated artists and the public about the beauty and permanency of the pastel medium for the past 17 years in the St. Louis area. The organization has over 40 members and is a part of the International Association of Pastel Societies which has members all over the world.
Pastels have been used as an art medium since the 1600’s. Pastels are sticks of pure pigment held together with a binder, used to create beautiful colorful paintings not necessarily pastel colors. The pastels of today are very permanent and will last longer than the 100 year old life of an oil painting because they never crack or yellow. Some of the more famous pastel artists were Impressionist Degas-known for his ballerinas, Toulouse-Lautrec and Impressionist, Mary Cassatt-known for her paintings of mothers and babies.
Hours are Wednesday thru Sunday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm- Closed Monday and Tuesday
