The exhibition series Globe Shaped brings five exhibitions together that explore the definition of diversity and how varying perspectives impact our decisions both as artists and people. The exhibit runs from June 25 through Aug. 20, 2010 with an opening reception from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, June 25, 2010.
Shifts in Perspective: Migrating Viewpoints
Shifts in Perspective: Migrating Viewpoints highlights the impact and effects that migration from one culture, or area, to another has had on one’s sense of identity, perception and emotion. Whether one's movement is voluntary or involuntary, the experience is emotional and ultimately life-changing. The 15 artists selected by juror Cileia Miranda Yuen are international, national, regional and local.
Regarding Place
The artists in Regarding Place offer a glimpse into the significance of how place defines one's sense of perception by representing an idea of a place, whether it is a sofa, a city map, conversations overheard or portraits of loved ones. Regarding Place was juried by Jana Harper. She selected 24 artists to participate.
Pieces
Pieces is a solo exhibition by Phil Jarvis. Using wood, metal, plastic and paint, Jarvis will assemble thirteen individual paintings to form a collective composition.
In the Chidren's Gallery
Conversation of Images
For the past several months students at Central Visual & Performing Arts High School and at Hazelwood Central High School exchanged art trading cards (2.5 inch by 3.5 inch original drawings or paintings) with one another. The students looked at each others’ cards, then replied artistically to each others’ images and ideas. As this process continued, ideas accumulated and themes emerged. When the banks of images reached critical mass, the students made full, gallery-size pieces of artwork based on the ideas on their cards. The whole process culminates in this show.

Marshall Plan: The Intra European Poster Competition of 1950
Our New Members Gallery hosts a selection of posters from the Marshall Plan Poster Contest. In the fall of 1950, the Intra-European Cooperation for a Better Standard of Living Poster Contest was held throughout Europe whereby artists were encouraged to submit posters that represented the theme of cooperation and economic recovery. More than 10,000 pieces were submitted from various countries. A panel of twelve graphic artists, each representing a different Marshall Plan country served as judges. The St. Louis Artists' Guild will be exhibiting 20 out of 25 of the posters. This collection is on loan from by Joe and Vicki Stone of Foristell, Missouri and the exhibit is curated by one of the Guild's board members Don Occhi.
