ABSTRAKT: Thursday, 27 August 2009

Benton Park's thriving new art gallery, ABSTRAKT and College Bound are proud to announce the next exhibiting artist, Kennedy Yanko. Yanko's exhibit, Wu-Wei (Chinese phrase loosely translated as "Active inactivity to become one with the Tao") is a celebration of vibrant colors and rich textures.

This event will run from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm on August 27. In addition to College Bound, ABSTRAKT has partnered with ALIVE Magazine to help capture this colorful evening. Artists and art enthusiasts are encouraged to celebrate and enjoy this unique experience while giving back to the community. A portion of the proceeds will go toward College Bound.

Yanko describes her artistic interpretation of her work from the Wu-Wei collection, "It is an emptiness that is absolute fullness, allowing the universe to be expressed as it is, without interference from individual beliefs, perceptions or limitations. Wu-Wei is the art of joyful surrender...surrender to this moment, every moment. It is the effortless, boundless allowing of that which Is...to Be. When I paint, I enter the gap between the `doing' and the `being'. I see nothing with my eyes. My stillness understands. My senses are quiet, my spirit free to follow the flow, guided by the universe, into the divine place of creation. The paint settles where it may, as the non-act of allowing every stroke of the brush of life to be what it is, accepting it without resistance, judgment or expectation. It is my now saying `Yes!' to what Is."

College Bound provides promising high school students from under-resourced backgrounds with the academic enrichment, social support and life skills needed to apply, matriculate and succeed in four year colleges.
