Third Degree East Gallery: 19 June 2009

Michelle "Mike" Ochonicky: A Retrospective

June 19-July 14, 2009
Opening reception: June 19, 6-10 p.m. Free and open to the public.

Thirty years is a long time...a really long time, and a cause for celebration. This year marks thirty years as an artist for Michelle "Mike" Ochonicky whose work includes murals, drawing, illustrations, sculpture and photography. Most notably, she has carved herself a reputation as a master of the early American art form of scrimshaw. She's come a long way from the first public showing of her scrimshaw in 1979. Her retrospective show at Third Degree Glass Factory's East Gallery will include Ochonicky's award-winning,hand-etched scrimshaw along with drawings and photographs, all in Ochonicky's signature sepia tones. Most of the drawings and photographs to be shown were created by the artist while in Europe.

Details about the artist, her writing, arts advocacy and teaching efforts can be found at www.stonehollowstudio.com. Meet her in person on June 19.
