Gallery Visio: Thursday, 7 May 2009

Ghosts of Industry: An exhibition of three artists perspectives on Industry trends.

May 7 – July 31, 2009
Opening Reception May 7, 4-7PM

Ghosts of Industry, an exhibit featuring new works by students from UM-St. Louis. Pieces by artists Julie Deken, Matt Pierson and Danny Reise will be on display through July 31.

In Julie Deken's work, She has isolated objects in order to personify them. The objects joined with their solemn and harmonious contexts are reminiscent of classical portraiture and reflect upon how we extend ourselves through the use of machinery. It is a spiritual encounter, one that raises questions about burial, ritual, evolution, and robotics.

Matt Pierson's drawings can best be described as an inflammatory illustration. Matt uses improvisation and a medley of thoughts that instantaneously juxtapose themselves into his drawings surface.

Danny Reise uses new technologies and processes to create photographs that are vibrant and derelict. These images are Danny's interpretation and representation of the American working class industry. Technology is always pushing exponentially forward, leaving the outdated machines behind to rust. The chance to find something that has been discarded by an individual or company is a peculiar and exquisite experience.
