Character Development
September 14 - October 3, 2007
Opening Reception Friday, September 14, 2007, 8pm -midnight
Wed. - Sat. 12- 5p

Hoffman LaChance invites you to join us, Friday September 14th, for our first opening of the 2007-2008 gallery season, Character Development. This exhibition features the work of four emerging artists, working and creating, locally - Benjie Heu, Dani Kranowitz, Alex Petrowsky and Peter Pranshke. Curated by Cole Root. Music by Eric Hall.

Character Development is an exhibition of drawing, painting and sculpture, all imbued with a darkly whimsical, cartoonish nature. These self narratives deceive the viewer at first with their depictions of seemingly cute and vulnerable characters. Darker underlying themes of disease, religion, sexuality and war, are soon exposed. Reminiscent of the art of Henry Darger, Edward Gorey and Yoshimoto Nara, the art of Character Development addresses the subversive juxtaposition of innocence and evil.

Wines and hors d'oeuvres provided by Sashas. Spirits donated by Schlafly. Exhibition runs September 14th through October 3rd. Open Wednesday to Saturday from 12pm to 5pm.
