Fontbonne University Gallery of Art: Friday, 19 October 2007

Terrell Carter :New Work

In the solo exhibition, "New Work," Terrell Carter will be exploring the power of the figure with the use of color and geometric shapes in the tradition of the Bay Area Figurative artists. Terrell uses house paint and primer to build up the surfaces of plywood boards, which he uses instead of traditional canvas. He intentionally applies thick swaths of color with Oil Sticks and Oil Pastel and then uses his fingers, sticks, and knives to manipulate the surfaces of his images, instead of using a brush. By doing this, the creation process remains personal and "hands on." His work will explore themes of fatherhood and family.
