Ellen Curlee Gallery is pleased to announce Method: Contemporary Abstract Photography curated by Annie Wischmeyer. Abstraction is not a new concept. In the work of the six artists selected for this exhibition, the visual language of abstraction may be the same but the methods and intentions have changed. Photography, with its roots firmly planted in both technology and popular culture, continues to evolve and progress in new directions, making it an almost perpetually fresh medium providing constant innovation in both concept and process. It is the application of these innovations to the language of abstraction that is the subject of METHOD. The group of artist represented use a variety of methods spanning from traditional photograms to digital or even physical manipulations, often combining processes to create photographic hybrids. It is this collaging of processes that creates a dialog between the past and present an points to the future of the photographic medium.

The Ellen Curlee Gallery is located at 1308-A Washington Avenue in the Washington Avenue loft district. Hours are 11:00am to 6pm Tuesday-Saturday and 11:00am to 9pm on First Fridays, the first Friday of each month. Tel: (314) 241-1299
