Ellen Curlee Gallery: 3 November 2006
Martin Parr’s Fashion Show, November 3---December 2, 2006.
Photographs from his “Fashion magazine”
Opening Reception: Friday November 3 fro 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.Mischievous ironist, self proclaimed populist, true master of the social commentary; Martin Parr turns his satirical wit and ruthless eye on the world of fashion to capture humanity’s vulnerability and all it’s follies. From candid portraits taken in the streets of Dakar and Essex to the highly stylized advertisements shot in Miami Beach and New York, the artist frames these revealing moments with quirky precision and in ultra vivid color. “ Fashion Magazine” was launched in May 2005 for the opening of “La Mode de Martin Parr”, an exhibition of photographs that opened on the same night at the Bon Marche store in Paris and the Rocket Gallery in London.
“Some of the shoots include models, some are people who were cast in the street. Sometimes you cannot tell the difference. Some look like document, some look like fashion, some even look like art. What is exciting is that it is difficult to tell the difference. The traditional boundaries of these worlds are slipping away and I’m enjoying exploring these new fusions.” - MP
