Kranzberg Arts Center: Friday, 20 November 2015

FiftyOneBowie - Portraits by Mark Dethrow
Closing Reception November 20 / 6 – 9p

The Kranzberg Arts Center cordially invites you to a final night of rock n' roll revelry as only the iconic David Bowie could inspire. Join us for a night of music, cocktails, and your final opportunity to take home a piece of this unforgettable retrospective.  This is also your last chance to peer into the creative mind behind FiftyOneBowie when artist Mark Dethrow speaks about his work and process.

Fifty-one years ago, iconic rocker David Bowie released his first single, “Liza Jane,” under the name Davy Jones and The King Bees.  Since then, Bowie has proven himself to be one of the most visually fascinating figures of our time.

With FiftyOneBowie, St. Louis based artist Mark Dethrow draws inspiration from the wealth of source material that has captured the chameleon performer over the course of his career. Expertly “borrowing” from concert photography and album covers, Dethrow has created fifty-one portraits that honor both Bowie and the many artists who have immortalized him
