Works from the Studios: June 27 – August 10, 2014 / Opening Reception: Friday, June 27, 5:000-8:00pm
CRAFT ON TAP: Friday, June 27, 6:00-11:00pm

Craft Alliance Center of Art + Design is pleased to announce the opening reception of its biennial exhibition Works from the Studios on Friday, June 27th from 5:00-8:00pm in its Delmar Loop Gallery. This exhibition features art from the students and artists who continue to explore arts education; it is these artists who bring energy and excitement to the Craft Alliance education centers every season. These education centers offer adults and children classes taught by professional artists in clay, glass, metal, fiber, wood, 2D, and 3D graphics classes. Entry-level, intermediate, and advanced classes and workshops are offered throughout the year, providing a welcoming environment for creation of and education about contemporary craft in the St. Louis region.  A community exists in our studios where emerging and advanced craft artists gain knowledge and skills to further their creativity. This biennial juried exhibition represents the quality work created by artists who have been inspired in the studios of Craft Alliance Center of Art + Design.

This year's exhibition has been juried by John Baltrushunas, Director of the Studio Art Program, Director of the Morton J. May Foundation Gallery, and Associate Professor of Art at Maryville University. Prizes will be distributed during an awards ceremony at 6:30pm during the opening reception.

To add to the excitement of this popular exhibition, Craft Alliance hosts CRAFT ON TAP, its 50th birthday bash. This free, outdoor event will welcome the St. Louis community to celebrate the 50 year history of Craft Alliance Center of Art + Design. In addition to the opening reception in the Delmar Loop gallery, the parking lot behind the building will host artist demonstrations in ceramics, glass, and metal, as well as the installation of an interactive mural co-presented by the STL Mural Project. Local food trucks will be on site and free beer and coffee will be provided by Urban Chestnut Brewing Company and Meshuggah Cafe.
