A reception for the exhibition will follow immediately.

Cape Dorset Prints: The Kinngait Studios is an exhibition of Native American prints from an artist group in Cape Dorset, Canada. The Kinngait Studios, as the print studios at Cape Dorset have come to be called, are one of the longest continually operating publisher of original prints in Canada. Founded in the 1950's, it is a model of the Inuit art-producing community.

The aesthetic qualities of the Cape Dorset Prints are a somewhat integral enigma, for they possess the spirituality and mysticism that is ever-present in Native American art. The prints very much present the notion of an inborn communication between man and the natural world through media ranging from stone cut, etching and aquatint, stencil, lithograph, felt-tip pen, to colored pencil. Many of the prints share a conversation as well-a commentary on the relationship betwn the Inuit community and the Euro-American civilization and the assimilation of the two cultures.

Handicapped parking is available near Galley 210.
