SLU Museum of Art: Friday, 8 February 2013

Roxanne Phillips: In Print opens with a reception in the museum'€™s community gallery on Friday, Feb. 8 from 5 pm- 7:30 p.m.

Phillips is a printmaker. The prints in this exhibit have the theme of architecture, although loosely interpreted as €œhaving structure.€ Her printed images range from geometric buildings to biomorphic clouds. Many of the images originate from photographs taken by the artist. These photos provided a "€œtemplate"€ for Phillips as she modifies colors, crops and assembles photos to create the printed image.

The full-color pieces feature the reductive relief process wherein one matrix is used and layers are carved away each time a new color is added. Each print has anywhere from three to twelve layers. The black and white pieces consist of relief with pen or the Intaglio process.
