Roxanne Phillips: In Print opens with a reception in the museum's community gallery on Friday, Feb. 8 from 5 pm- 7:30 p.m.
Phillips is a printmaker. The prints in this exhibit have the theme of architecture, although loosely interpreted as having structure. Her printed images range from geometric buildings to biomorphic clouds. Many of the images originate from photographs taken by the artist. These photos provided a "template" for Phillips as she modifies colors, crops and assembles photos to create the printed image.
The full-color pieces feature the reductive relief process wherein one matrix is used and layers are carved away each time a new color is added. Each print has anywhere from three to twelve layers. The black and white pieces consist of relief with pen or the Intaglio process.
