SOHA Gallery: Friday, 13 July 2012

FOREST PARK 1969 | Dennis Staffne | SOHA Gallery
July 6 - 26 | Reception July 13 6-10pm

In 1969 Dennis Staffne purchased his first serious camera, a Nikon F. In the summer of that year (prior to taking any photography classes) he set out to photograph and explore his hometown of St. Louis, more specifically, Forest Park. Janis Joplin and Big Brother and the Holding Company performed a free concert in Forest Park at the old World’s Fair Pavilion on August 10, 1968. This event inspired local bands to provide free concerts at this same location, especially in the following summer. By 1969, the pavilion was a popular gathering spot on every summer weekend. Dennis captured dynamic and thoughtful images from this time in our city's history. We hope you will come take a look at these nostalgic images.

Reception with the Artist is on July 13, 6-10pm (open to the public)
