The Gallery @ SIBA: Friday, 16 March 2012

Please join us Friday, March 16 from 6pm to 9pm for the inaugural exhibition "Houska Downtown" at The Gallery @ SIBA.

Colorful, bold, intense art that commands attention and triggers a smile that's the essence of artist Charles E. Houska's work. Inspired by such famous artists as Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol and Keith Haring, Houska creates his own pop-art style, using a whimsical cast of characters and bright colors, bordered "obsessively" by black lines.

Houska constantly focuses his energies on creating new, bold, fun art to make people smile.

Though Houska's art has been called "instantly gratifying" and "energizing" by art critics, Houska simply views his art as an escape from the gloom and doom of the real world. There is no hidden message, political or religious meaning. "I paint for light-hearted, open minded people of all ages," he says.

Houska Downtown runs through May 10. Opening reception is free and open to the public. Refreshments served.

The Gallery @ SIBA is located on the campus of Stevens Institute of Business & Arts, 1521 Washington Avenue, St Louis, MO 63103 (near The City Museum)
