Bonsack Gallery: Friday, 13 May 2011

The exhibit, “Untold Stories: Photo-collages by Sandra Matthews,” will be on display in the
Bonsack Gallery from April 15 through May 13.

Two projects that explore fragments of narrative in different ways are represented in the larger
“Untold Stories” exhibit. The pieces in the “Homeland Scrolls” series are made up of layered
landscape elements, resembling an archeology of buried histories. The “Timelines” series
includes portraits of individuals made over intervals of months, years or decades. Their implicit
personal narratives are set against a backdrop of newspaper fragments. Matthews states that in
both projects, she is interested in the partialness and complexity of what is transmitted between
one generation and the generations that follow.

All are invited to a public closing reception hosted by the artist from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, on Friday,
May 13. Regular gallery hours are 8 am to 6:30 pm, weekdays. The exhibit is free to the public.
