CONCURRENT, presents the work of Gina Alvarez, Melody Evans and Damia Smith and opens Sunday, July 19, from 3-5pm, with an artists gallery talk at 2pm. In August of 2008, Craft Alliance opened a second facility in the Kranzberg Arts Center in Grand Center and began an Artist-in-Residence program. This competitive program gives emerging and established artists a 9 month residency opportunity to focus on their areas of clay, fiber or metals and then exhibit their work in the exhibition space. In this exhibition, Gina Alvarez has created a wall of delicate clay doilies that transforms her ideas of domesticity and the hand-made. Melody Evans is inspired by a scientific microscopic world and designed an installation of multiple organic clay forms and layers of plexi-glass that aims to create a sense of awe and wonderment at the beauty and complexity of the natural world. Damia Smith’s investigations of nature are not only showcased in her large scale, bold and bright jewelry but also shown creeping up one of the walls in the gallery space. This exhibition will be open from July 19th until August 16th. Daily gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
