"SHADOWS IN THE BLACKFIELD"
Friday, April 17th, 2009, 5:00 - 9:30PM

Two artists cast their eyes toward a common concept. Henneman, a prominent American Abstract Expressionist, and D'Sousa, an expert in the realism of the Old World, collaborate in this exceptional exhibit. This new presentation of their work conveys both aesthetics and the emotional abyss from which they are taking off. Their exploration ultimately leads us into their rhapsodic landscapes, both separately and collectively.

The blackfield as a point of departure is represented by a blank canvas, an empty dark stage in which they are one with the audience in anticipation of what will happen. A space that beckons for raw emotion and thereby serves as a type of chalkboard verbalizing their sensations formed by the world around them. They take us into a space of silence, isolation, and even chaos. Yet all the while, a world full of possibilities to approach signs of light, a journey through the past with a destination of the future. The artists are keenly aware of living in the present global transition. They are participants, and it unquestionably impacts their work.
