All I Needed was Everything is the title of John Watson's show at the Philip Slein Gallery, opening January 16th and running through February 28th. Cobbled together from scraps of wood and drywall screws, his objects and installations begin as rudimentary ideas, and grow into pieces that not only occupy—but also create and define space. The work is at oncee playful, animated, serious, and ominous as it teeters between structure and collapse, a perfect allegory of the modern world. Watson, master of the allegory, is a professor of sculpture of Webster University. His work has been featured at Laumeier Sculpture Park and in the most recent Aqua Art Fair in Miami.

Also showing at the Philip Slein Gallery is Selected Prints by Tony Fitzpatrick in conjunction with his show Tony Fitzpatrick: The City Etchings 1993-2003 at Gallery 210, University of Missouri Saint Louis. The show is a selection of some of the noted Chicago artist's greatest hits.
