Jewelry at Large
Marcia Smith, Curator
January 9 – February 22, 2009
Public Opening Reception Friday, January 9, 6:00-8:00pm in the National Exhibition Gallery
Craft Alliance’s newest exhibit, Jewelry at Large, presents objects that challenge the traditional notion of jewelry and adornment. Curator Marcia Smith has brought together thirteen jewelry artists from across the country to share their inspiration and life experiences in their forms by using unusual material, new tools and new methods of assemblage.
Jewelry at Large examines artists’ interpretations of jewelry by presenting over sixty body sculptures which share inspiration, innovation and drama with viewers. The exhibition is curated by interior designer and art consultant Marcia Smith, who promotes a particular interest in contemporary jewelry forms. “I continue to search for extraordinary things that make life more interesting, more personal and fun. High on the list – jewelry that is often big, outrageous, delightful, spectacular and wearable” states Smith.
Artists include Donna D’Aquino, Wallhill, NY; Peggy Eng, St. Louis, MO; Steven Ford, Philadelphia, PA; David Forlano, Philadelphia, PA; Andrea Janosik, Brooklyn, NY; Katherine Koehler, Jersey City, NJ; Lee Hongsock, Providence, RI; Erica Rosenfeld, Brooklyn, NY; Biba Schutz, New York, NY; Joyce Scott, Baltimore, MD; Cara Croninger, Brooklyn, NY; Todd Reed, Boulder, CO; Marjorie Schick, Pittsburg, KS.
Opening concurrently in the David and Jacqueline Charak Gallery, Craft Alliance presents Intangible Moment: New Figurative Work by Jessica Erickson. Erickson specializes in textiles and metalsmithing.
