Atrium Gallery: Friday, 17 October 2008

Christopher Tanner
Opening Exhibition, "Give Me the Cobra Jewel"

You are cordially invited to the opening of Atrium's new gallery at 4728 McPherson Avenue. Opening this fall season with an exciting dazzling, and tantalizing exhibition featuring New York artist, Christopher Tanner. Carolyn Miles, Founder, Owner, and Director, is pleased that Atrium will celebrate its 22nd Anniversary, with an elegant new space, a new to St. Louis international artist, a spectacular Opening Exhibition featuring incredibly brilliant (as in sparkle) paintings, drawings and collages. "Give Me the Cobra Jewel" will open with a Reception on Friday, October 17, 6-9pm and will include a lively musical performance piece by the artist.

Tanner comes from a background in music and theater, as well as art, and his lavish, opulent works present exuberance with multifaceted surfaces, reflections, and references that are wonderfully seductive and provocative for their flair and deeply felt emotion. Paint, sequins, elaborate designs, color saturated surfaces, as well as subtle monochromatic black and white works send viewers on a roller coaster of impressions. Paired with drawings (also including glitter) on vintage wallpaper, this body of work is very rich aesthetically, emotionally and intellectually.

The exhibition will run from October 17-November 30.
Gallery Hours are Wednesday-Saturday 10-6, Sunday, noon-4 and Tuesday by appointment.
