Gallery of Contemporary Art, SLCC Forest Park: Friday, 13 June 2008

Texture in Art is the June exhibition at the Gallery of Contemporary Art – Forest Park Community College-St. Louis. Texture in Art opens June 2, 2008 and closes June 30. The artists’ reception is Friday, June 13 from 6 pm to 8 pm. All artwork is for sale.

Six African American artists from theSt. Louis area artists are participating in the exhibition: Daniel Jefferson, Melvin Jefferson, Darnell Malone, Katrina Shannon, Solomon Thurman, and Joy Wade. Freida L. Wheaton is the curator.

Texture in Art presents the artists’ visual and emotional interpretations of an element that most often is associated with textiles. These artists have used layering of paint, introduction of objects and media manipulation in their processes. With these methods, coupled with their subjects, they have created art that evokes a human cultural memory.

The Gallery of Contemporary Art is located in the Library Building, St. Louis Community College, 5600 Oakland Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63110. Gallery hours are 10 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday.
