The Ides of March with Robert Longyear Presented by Craft Alliance
Exhibit Opening & Reception: Friday March 14, 5-8 PM
Craft Alliance presents The Ides of March: Sculptural Brooches Inspired by the Landscape of River des Peres. By using various metals and concrete, Metalsmith Robert Longyear offers a glimpse into the basement of St. Louis. His creative process involves engaging the river through photography, site specific works, and finally reflecting the imagery within the brooches he presents in this exhibit.
“I take material and engage it in a way that makes the work rough, but managed, manipulated, made. It’s not that I could take any object out of the world and make it into a brooch. I take the dynamic, the idea, the viral quality of the materials and have used them as a formulated method in jewelry,” states Robert Longyear.
Robert will be on hand for the public opening reception on March 14, 5-8 pm; the exhibit will run through March 30th. Admission to the opening and exhibition is free.
