Snowflake: Friday, 14 March 2008

Opening Friday night at Snowflake, March 14, 7-10 pm.

Cary Horton examines odd juxtapositions of context, objects, fact, fantasy, architectural and organic elements through a series of photographs that plays with traditional film techniques. "As humans leave more and more of a mark on nature, what is natural seems to be almost absurd and out of place, such as seeing birds trapped in a Home Depot or a hawk hunting along the interstate. More and more, human contact with the actual natural world seems startling and pseudo-natural has become our authentic experience of nature, such as rock climbing indoors, audio CD's of "sounds of nature" etc." Cary makes an ink jet print directly onto traditional film negatives and then rescans the image. The final work is printed digitally.
