Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis: Friday, 17 May 2019

Summer exhibitions open Friday, May 17.

CAM's summer season features exhibitions by Paul Mpagi Sepuya and Lawrence Abu Hamdan. Sepuya's first major museum survey covers multiple periods of his life and photography, exposing a portraiture of profound intimacy. Abu Hamdan's Earwitness Theatre is informed by the artist's acoustic investigations into human rights abuses that are heard but not seen. In the courtyard, Eric Ellingsen's project Tool Shed contains soundscapes of city neighborhoods collected from field recording taken during artist-led "walkshops."

On the Mezzanine, ArtReach: Vashon through a Lens features photography by a select group of students from Vashon High School who considered themselves and their peers as the subjects of contemporary art and narrative. In the Education Galleries, New Art in the Neighborhood: Sequence reveals the young artists' explorations into animation; and LEAP Middle School Initiative: En Masse presents the students' forays into printmaking and sculpture.
