Cry of Victory and Short Walks to FreedomOctober 18 – November 24, 2018
Opening reception: Thursday, October 18th, 2018, 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.
In conjunction with For Freedoms' 50 State Initiative, projects+gallery presents three billboards located throughout Saint Louis City and County as a part of forthcoming group exhibition Cry of Victory and Short Walks to Freedom, curated by Modou Dieng.
Featuring fourteen artists of various disciplines, the exhibit celebrates creative gestures as small yet impactful victories in the context of a dire political administration that is actively cutting funding for the arts. Together, each artist's work provides a renewed sense of optimism and the potential for dialogue, progress and change. The exhibit includes three pieces from 1965 by Kwame Brathwaite, thus bridging contemporary and past struggles.
Cry of Victory and Short Walks to Freedom will feature Derrick Adams, Kwame Brathwaite, Bunny Burson, Jen Everett, Shabez Jamal, Rodolfo Marron III, Fabrice Monteiro, Esmaa Mohamoud, Alexis Peskine, Michele Pred, Aram Han Sifuentes, Xaviera Simmons, Hank Willis Thomas and Kennedy Yanko.
