Calvin Ma. The Walk. ceramic, glaze, 15x6x12"
with an opening reception from 5:00 - 8:00 PM
BEVERLY MAYERI, ERIKA SANADA, CALVIN MA
The versatility of clay allows for infinite possibilities within creative expression. The same earth based material can be practical and functional or emotive and expressive. When the later is pursued, the intimate connection between artist and material result in artwork that is both powerful and evocative.
Beverly Mayeri is an established ceramic sculptor. Mayeri works with refined and elegant heads and figures, often using meticulously patterned details that allude to the inner life of emotions, thoughts, and human frailties.
Calvin Ma is a ceramic sculptor. Calvin’s practice is both playful and adventurous, creating works that are rooted in childhood innocence and imagination.
Erika Sanada anthropomorphizes anxieties and insecurities into beautifully unusual creatures. Inspired by supernatural movies and animations, Erika’s aesthetics are based in and informed by magical and fantastic scenarios. Her work is composed into dynamic compositions and imbued with a surreal feeling that the sculpture object is very much alive and ought to be cared for.
This exhibition runs through January 20, 2018.
