Kranzberg Arts Center: 7 August 2015

FiftyOneBowie - Portraits by Mark Dethrow - Curated by Jason Gray
August 7 - 31, Opening reception August 7, 6 - 10pm

Fifty-one years ago, iconic rocker David Bowie released his first single, "Liza Jane," under the name Davy Jones and The King Bees.  Since then, Bowie has proven himself to be one of the most visually fascinating figures of our time.

With FiftyOneBowie, Mark Dethrow draws inspiration from the wealth of source material that has captured the chameleon performer over the course of his career. Expertly "borrowing" from concert photography and album covers, Dethrow has created fifty-one portraits that honor both Bowie and the many artists who have immortalized him.

This captivating show opens as part of "Sound & Vision: An Art Tribute to Rock & Roll"-- a multi sensory, visual, photographic, and musical collaboration between the Kranzberg Arts Center, The Dark Room Wine Bar and Photo Gallery, curator Jason Gray, and Craft Alliance Center of Art + Design. DJ Mark Lewis will be rocking the reception with Bowie classics, so put on your red shoes and let's dance at the Kranzberg Arts Incubator!
