Atrium Gallery: Friday, 16 May 2014

Opening Two Exhibitions

John Schwartzkopf - "Wooden Grace"
and
Janet Sorokin - "Musicale"

Please Join us for a Reception for the artists, Friday, May 16, 6 – 8 p.m.

With a background in philosophy and an intense interest and skill with wood, including complex combinations of many rare and unusual species, Schwartzkopf creates lyrical constructions that belie the media.  While some are minimal, sleek, and exhibit a a tempting tactile aura, others are complex geometric constructions often seeming to defy gravity.

Sorokin's work has evolved over a number of years from painting to silkscreen prints to delicately textured abstract collage. These intimate works relate specifically to  her inspiration from music, particularly chamber music which she enjoys in concerts and in her studio. This mature work is quite sensitive in it's use of color, texture, and rhythm.

Both exhibitions open May 16 with a reception for the artists from 6 – 8 p.m., and run through July 12.

Parking will be available for the opening on the building lot (east side).

Note: Both artists will also be at the gallery Saturday morning, 10:30 – Noon for coffee and informal conversation with visitors.

Thursday-Saturday 10-5, Tuesday and Wednesday by appointment
