The Bonsack Gallery: Friday, 10 January 2013
The
Bonsack Gallery exhibit entitled “Rival Schools: Shared Ceramic Vision” will
feature the works of grades 9 through 12 ceramics students from John Burroughs
School and MICDS. The show will run from January 10 through February 5. All are
invited to an opening reception from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, Friday, January 10, in
the gallery.
“Rival Schools: Shared Ceramic Vision" is curated by
Burroughs ceramics teacher Andrew Denney and MICDS ceramics teacher Bill
Yonker, Using clay as their medium, Denney and
Yonkers encourage their students to aspire to clear ideas, technical art
training, and heightened aesthetic sensibilities. Included in the exhibit are
works of utilitarian pottery, pieces inspired by continued interest in the
vessel format, and ceramic sculpture. “Ultimately, our mission is to challenge
our students to become fine object makers and discover their own personal voice
in clay,” says Denney.
Regular gallery hours are 8 am to 5 pm, weekdays. The exhibit is free to
the public.
