Philip Slein Gallery: Wednesday, 16 October 2013

Anne Deniau, Sharp, silver gelatin print, 40 x 30 cm
The Philip Slein Gallery is pleased to announce the first U.S. exhibition of Parisian photographer Anne Deniau Wednesday, October 16th, 6-8 pm. Deniau was a close friend and confidant of fashion designer and artist Alexander McQueen. For 13 years she was the only photographer granted access to the designer’s studio and backstage of his runway shows. Deniau recently released a stunning book of over 400 photographs of the designer and his work, Love Looks Not with the Eyes, a selection of which will be on view at the Slein Gallery. The exhibition takes its title from the Shakespeare quote from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, “Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind” that the designer had tattooed on his arm. Sarah Burton, Creative Director at Alexander McQueen says, “There is a beauty, strength and fragility in everything Anne is doing.”

With the Mind: Photographs by Anne Deniau is presented as part of the A Queen Within exhibition at the World Chess Hall of Fame. A Queen Within runs October 19, 2013 through April 18, 2014. In addition, please join us for a book signing at Saks Fifth Avenue on Saturday, October 19th at 11am.

Hours: Tues.-Sat. 10am-5pm
