Gallery Visio: Thursday, 29 August 2013

Visie Van Amsterdam
A Student Exhibition
August 29 – September 18, 2013
Opening Reception August 29, 6-8:30pm

A Dutch inspired poster show brought to you in a combined effort by UMSL and Loyola of New Orleans design students. Recent returnees from travels abroad in Amsterdam, Netherlands, this exhibition highlights the standout, inspiring impressions from their trip.

IN THE NETHERLANDS design is a normal part of everyday life. The money you spend, the telephone cards you insert into public phones, the tax forms you fill out, the trains you ride in, the signs you encounter on the roads, the uniforms of the police officers, the posters for cultural events, and the logos of major corporations all speak of the carefully considered application of notions of proportion, color coordination, functionalism, material expression, composition, and typography. Everything makes sense, everything works, and the world around you has an appearance of rationality that you would not encounter anyplace else.
