Bonsack Gallery to feature work of printmaker Tom Huck
Printmaker Tom Huck will exhibit “Doing It For the Kids” in the Bonsack Gallery from August 22 through September 18, 2013. All are invited to an opening reception from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, August 30.
The work in this show concerns itself with sources: the blocks from which the prints are pulled — sketchbooks, drawings and the ephemera of influence. Included are four colossal blocks for some of Huck’s most well-known prints, the linoleum block for “The Attack of the Fifty Foot Yard Ornament,” a 61/2-foot carved block carved in Paris and three woodblocks from the triptych “Snack Time Marcy (The Marcys),” inspired by the 1996 doll that “loved to snack” and was quickly recalled in 1997 after it started “snacking” on children’s hair and digits
As one of the most important printmakers in the world, Huck’s influences range from Durer, Ensor and Posada to Crumb, tattoos and heavy metal. A prolific printer and an exquisite “cutter” of wood, Huck has earned a place among the long and illustrious list of Missouri storytellers.
