Elizabeth L. Gilbert has been working as a photographer based in
Nairobi, Kenya, for many years. First she worked as a war photographer,
but since 1998 has been documenting the rapidly changing customs and
rituals of the Maasai, Samburu, Mursi, Karo, Hamar, and the Batwa
peoples of the Great Rift Valley. She not only has documented ancient
traditions before they completely disappear, she has brought the
photographs back to the people, so that they can see and react to their
own images.
