Tate Foley's WE BUY GOLD speaks to the get-rich-quick mindset of contemporary America. Have useless junk lying around? Sell it for CA$H. These ads are ubiquitous and the plague of advertising. They adorn our elbows’ resting place in grocery stores as we pay for food, startling the pagination in every newspaper, written harshly on every park bench, and attract consumers to every gas station, cigarette store, and pawnshop.

Rags to riches will always be our goal. The difference between the peanut farmer turned president and the modern American is the idea of work ethic. People try to do as little as possible to get rich. Ponzi scheme con artists, day traders and penny stocks, and investors in intangible objects all refine and define the act of goldbricking. As long as we are promised there is money to be made with as little exertion as possible, we will do it.

WE BUY GOLD aims to exhibit the frailty and insubstantial nature of the act of investing. It is a more refined and organized form of betting at the tracks - the difference being if an investment hits rock bottom, you have only your own legs to break.
