This collection features recent silkscreen work as well as a new body of prints devoted to reading, literacy, and listening. I have always loved words, and their complex histories of meaning. I have a public career as a designer, educator and author; fewer know I am also dyslexic and reading presents challenges. This body of work is a song to adaptation. It explores alternative ways to build a lifetime of learning when faced with both physical and temporal limitations. Its mission is to make memory objects to record passages from books I listen to while working in studio. Recordings are intangible; they are difficult to search and highlight, impossible to dog-ear, and don’t necessarily lend themselves to deep analysis. This work comments on our relationship with reading and the written and spoken word and how this relationship is changing in current times. - Jen McKnight
