Art Saint Louis proudly presents our newest exhibits, "Drift" and "Fine Line," on view in the Gallery June 25-August 19, 2011. Juror: Dr. Ivy Cooper, Professor of Art History at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

"Drift" is a unique all media exhibition co-presented by Art Saint Louis and the St. Louis Artists' Guild and will be presented as one exhibit at our two locations. Our aim is to use the show as an opportunity to focus on the geography of our two organizations, the vast community that we serve.

As an exhibit, "Drift" looks at our movement between East and West and the relationship to nature and the world in which we inhabit. It also focuses on how people are affected by time, space and movement.The works in this show highlight these ideas and communicate a profound relationship with these concepts. Many questions can be asked that relate to the idea of Drift: How do you relate to your environment? How does travel affect your daily experience? Do you notice the change of the seasons? How does environmental change impact your existence? Does time fly? What is your relationship with time? Many of these questions are addressed and answered by the artworks featured in the show.

From 202 artworks submitted by 111 St. Louis regional artists for her consideration, Dr. Cooper selected 85 artworks by 71 artists for Drift. Featured are artworks in all media, including ceramics, digital media, fiber, installation, metals, mixed media, painting, paper, photography, printmaking, sculpture, video, and more. CONCURRENT EXHIBIT: Presented concurrently with "Drift," "Fine Line" is a multi-media exhibition curated by Art Saint Louis Gallery Director Robin Hirsch and features works that emphasize the line as shape and form as well as artworks that might be considered as having crossed a fine line.
