GREGG LOUIS: "DOWN TO EARTH"
June 3 - July 24, 2011
Opening Reception for the Artist: Friday, June 3 from 6 - 8pm
Atrium Gallery invites you to our Summer Show featuring new works by former St. Lousian, Gregg Louis. A solo exhibition, Down to Earth will present a series of photographs as well as sculpture. Louis has been recognized as a dynamic, young installation artist, and is now using his constructions as subject for photography. In this series, he works with household objects to create almost surreal works. The objects are often isolated and rearranged, taking on new life not always instantly recognizable. Through appropriating objects, images, and/or experiences he utilizes artifice and transforms everyday things into strange and often humorous deviations of their original form. His works playfully question the patterns and perceptions of everyday life. Although the initial impulse may seem playful, these images are also perceived as otherwordly, sometimes unsettling as mysterious objects just landed in our realm. These works are provocative, elegant and at times humorous.
Regular hours: Wednesday - Saturday, 10 - 6, Sunday, 12 - 4, Tuesday by appointment
