Old Orchard Gallery: Friday, 29 April 2011

Brothers and Sisters, A Family of Artists
Jeanne McGauley Conway, Patrick McGauley, Peg McGauley Dietz, Ellen McGauley Watt, Joseph McGauley
Opening reception Friday April 29 from 6:30 to 9:30 pm.

Jack and Margaret McGauley moved to St. Louis in 1952 and raised eight children in Richmond Heights. Many of those children became artists. Their combined works will be on display in a show entitled “Brothers and Sisters, A Family of Artists” at The Old Orchard Gallery, 37 S. Old Orchard, in Webster Groves, Missouri, opening Friday, April 29, and ending Saturday, May 7.

Why did so many in one family gravitate to art? There’s no clear reason. No known ancestors had any discernable artistic talents. Their parents displayed no tendency toward the arts (although they fostered an atmosphere of allowing their children to delve creatively into their respective areas of interest.) There were no mandatory art lessons as children. The talent simply grew naturally, nurtured by the loving environment created by Jack and Margaret.

Their artistic media range from sculpture to oils, watercolors to photography, and from their studios and offices in Missouri, Georgia and Colorado their works are displayed nationwide.
