Framations: Friday, 14 January 2011

What better way to get through those winter months than to explore the world through another person's eye - or in this case, their lens. Framations Art Gallery presents their annual juried photography exhibit, Beyond the Lens, now in it's 5th year. Artists from the region have been invited to enter their work for this growing exhibit, to be juried this year by Stacey Morse, the Executive Director of Chesterfield Arts and a professional artist specializing in fine art photography. This exhibit is open to all forms of photography and to regional artists age 18 and older. Awards will be announced at the Opening Reception, which will be held on Friday, January 14 from 6-8pm. The exhibit will run through February 24.

Concurrently, Gallery Two will feature the woven wall hangings of Melissa Whitwam. This exhibit focuses on our experiences of time and how we record them. She relates this in terms of weaving: "Each pass of thread is unique at the moment it is passed, as each life experience is unique as it happens. The accumulation of events creates a piece of fabric in which the individual strand is only a part of the whole. Each pass is different, but the fabric is created with only one thread." Melissa uses hand-embroidery and printing to add visual depth and richness to the beautiful surface textures, many of which are silk
