Tuan Nguyen: dogleg nexus
Opening reception:
Saturday, January 29, 6-9 PM
THE CHAPEL is pleased to present "dogleg nexus," an exhibition of small works on paper and panel from the past eleven years of Tuan Nguyen’s studio practice. The selected works set up intersections of various narratives or realities, the sources of which range from landscape painting to bicycle shocks.
Several works incorporate sculptural elements created from detritus and discarded materials collected from the artist’s studio. These sculptural elements function in a similar manner to the flat images, evidencing in physical form the accumulation of time, thought, and process.
As a whole, the works operate as abstract configurations of various realities encountered, remembered, or imagined. In doing so, the works speak to a kind of displacement and the awkward--if sometimes funny--convergence of disparate or seemingly unrelated elements, whether personal, historical, or imagined.
The exhibition runs from January 29 - March 12, 2011. Gallery hours by appointment: thechapelgallery@gmail.com
THE CHAPEL is a not-for-profit music and art space located in a converted gothic structure behind Memorial Presbyterian Church, across from Forest Park, next to Washington University.
