Innovations In Textiles 2009 Printed and Primed Surfaces Nov. 15 - Jan. 8, 2009 Opening Reception from 1-3pm, Nov. 15, 2009 at St. Louis Artists' Guild.
The exhibition series Printed and Primed Surfaces encompasses five exhibitions that are sure to push the boundaries of creativity defined by a two-dimensional surface. Each exhibition explores the sensibility of material - paper, canvas, panel, a MetroLink stop as well as a method of creation - collaborative, client based or artist defined. Printed and Primed Surfaces will challenge historical notions of two dimensional presentation and purpose as well as present a diverse group of exhibitions that each highlights, honors and engages in a long standing artistic dialogue regarding the two dimensional media.

Pulled is an exhibition highlighting the fine-art, print-publishing field in St. Louis lead by Wildwood Press, Island Press, Nancy Kranzberg Center for the Illustrated Book, Pele Prints, Dubbledutch Press and All Along Press. The exhibit focuses on the diversity of the contemporary printmaking field and the collaborative spirit of these enterprises. The fine-art presses represented in Pulled, work with emerging, mid-career and established artists from around the world.
Traditions in 2-D Juried by William LaChance - St. Louis artist and educator
A juried exhibition that embodies the traditions explored in two dimensional work, such as figurative, abstract, still life, landscape and more. The work selected for Traditions in 2-D will vary in theme, process and technique but will be united within the exhibition to highlight the diversity, innovation and mastery of the two dimensional artistic tradition.
Shiny Means It's Done Solo exhibition by Myles Keough
Shiny Means It's Done is an exhibit by St. Louis-based artist Myles Keough. In this exhibit, Myles presents us with an installation of about 200 paintings mounted in a grid-like pattern on a wall of the gallery. Shiny Means It's Done is an investigation into the artist's "complex balance between nature and nurture." As questioned by Myles, is it "the nature of the material or its natural reaction to the application process and the artist's manipulation or nurturing of the material?" The work presents the viewer with a staggering representation of the power of aesthetics and ideology.

Curated by Bill Vann, At the End of the Day Illustration Section Biennal Exhibition features pieces from St. Louis Artists' Guild's Illustration Section. Works highlight the impressive creative range of our members, who are all active and working illustrators.
Maplewood Richmond Heights Middle School
Maplewood Richmond Heights Middle School bases curriculum on "school as expedition," where learning extends beyond the walls of the traditional classroom. Showcased in this exhibition is an interdisciplinary learning project surrounding St. Louis neighborhoods and the MetroLink. Initially, 7th graders participate in a web quest. Housed within the Web site is an introduction to the assignment, the inspiration, specific tasks and roles that need to be addressed and the evaluation form for the MetroLink web quest. Students are instructed to research Romare Bearden's "The Block," travel through the city of St. Louis via MetroLink and take responsibility for digitally cataloging a specific stop along the way. The students work together to make collages of visual elements that represent the stop and compose a written account of the neighborhood. The groups' responses are tiled together to create a ten-foot long representation of St. Louis neighborhoods found along the MetroLink line. Also included in this exhibition is a set of self-portraits. Students are asked to self reflect on a color that represents their personality and embellish a facial feature that informs the viewer of a specific trait the students possess. The collection of monochromatic portraits is both touching and informative its representation of the adolescent self.
