Schmidt Art Center: Thursday, 22 January 2009
OPENING RECEPTION: SHADES OF GREATNESS
from the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, Kansas City, MO
Thursday, January 22, 6 - 8 p.m.
Shades of Greatness, a collection of paintings and sculptures about the history of Negro League Baseball travels to the Schmidt at Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC). The exhibit will feature 35 paintings and sculptures by national artists commissioned by the NLBM. The exhibit was developed by the museum to meet the growing interest about the history of the great players, who because of segregation, played in their own leagues until the mid 1950s.
ALSO ON DISPLAY: HAROLD POTH Animated Inventions
Poth worked as an illustrator and graphic designer for his company, Visual Communications, from 1965 until 1985. During that time, he began investigating new materials to communicate
how imagination interprets reality. The results are colorful, thoughtful and whimsical sculptures. Many of his works have movable parts to engage the viewers as "co-creators."
