In Sight: Selections from the Collections
February 6 - May 10, 2009
Laumeier Sculpture Park Indoor Galleries

Opening Night: February 6, 2009 5-7 PM
Curator's Talk at 5:30 PM

Laumeier Sculpture Park presents a survey of some rarely-seen works, unique ephemera and recent acquisitions from its extensive collection of contemporary art. More than 40 works of sculpture, book arts as well as audio and video pieces exploring the range of collecting that Laumeier has engaged in for three decades will be exhibited.

"This exhibition is drawn from Laumeier's wonderful but under-exposed permanent collection," said Kim Humphries, Laumeier's Director of Exhibitions and Collections. "In Sight focuses on a few key areas of that collection: recent acquisitions, book arts, printed matter and ephemera, recently conserved work and sculpture. Among the recent acquisitions featured are works by Mark di Suvero, Franco Mondini-Ruiz, Tobias Putrih, Sue Eisler, Richard Nonas, Robert Chambers and Joseph Havel. Laumeier will also be presenting an 18-foot long Michael Heizer earthwork, Compression Line, from 1968.

Laumeier's collection of S.M.S. Press and Parkett limited edition publications provide a great lineup of artists working in print and other media. Unique works by James Lee Byars, Richard Hamilton, Walter di Maria, Ray Johnson, Marcel Duchamp, Meret Oppenheim, Joseph Kosuth, H.C. Westerman, Man Ray, Arman, John Cage and Roy Lichtenstein will be exhibited. Also extracted from the S.M.S. and Parkett collections will be a Bruce Nauman video and a trio of vintage sound works, at individual listening stations, by music legends La Monte Young and Terry Riley as well as a unique spoken word piece by Bernar Venet.
