ANN PIBAL Recent Work
and
JOHN DILG Recent Work

Opening Reception Friday, January 18, 6:00-8:00 PM
January 18 thru February 16, 2008

Schmidt Contemporary Art is proud to open 2008 with two one-person exhibitions: Ann Pibal, a New York based artist who is having her second one-person exhibition and her first outside of New York and John Dilg who is having his second exhibition with this gallery.

Ann Pibal works in a clean, crisp, geometric style layering the ground color of her surface with a series of thin lines which present gridlike references although never actually invoking an actual grid. Her paintings are painted on a thin rigid material called Dibond which allows the paintings to lie flat against the wall and almost meld into it. Thus the eye of the viewer is allowed to carry the imagery easily beyond the dimensions of the picture plane enabling even the smallest of works to activate a larger space with ease.

John Dilg continues his explorations of landscape and the figure in very carefully executed oil paintings from the past two years. John’s touch of the paint to the canvas is one of the most sensual I have ever encountered. The paintings, perhaps simple in composition upon an initial viewing, gain in their complexity as one allows mind and eye to be absorbed into the immaculate execution of the canvases.
